今年のレッスルマニア34では、直前までザ・ロックの出場の可能性について噂されていました。
当初の噂では、ロンダ・ラウジーがWWEデビューを行うことから、ザ・ロックがパートナーとなるのではないかとも言われていました。最終的にはRAWゼネラルマネージャーのカート・アングルになっています。
ザ・ロックは現在映画『ランペイジ』の宣伝のために各メディアをまわっていますが、彼は『KISS FM UK』のインタビューでレッスルマニア34の交渉があったことを明らかにしています。
「ああ、確かにあったよ。実際にビンス・マクマホンと私はおよそ2ヵ月前に、もし私がレッスルマニアに復帰したらやろうとしていることを話していたんだ。彼はロンダ・ラウジーとのタッグマッチを含む本当に素晴らしいアイデアを私に提案してきたよ。私は彼女、トリプルH、ステファニーを非常に誇りに思っているんだ」
ロンダ・ラウジー、トリプルH、ステファニー・マクマホンは、レッスルマニア31で共演したストーリーラインがもとになっています。もしザ・ロックが今年出場していたら、共演した4人が揃っていたので完璧なストーリーが出来上がっていたかもしれません。
ザ・ロックがレッスルマニア出場の関心があったにもかかわらず、なぜ出場しなかったのかについて尋ねられました。彼は次のように語っています。
「電話中は本当に興奮していたよ。しかし私は(フィルムプレミアのために)上海にいたから、それを実現することはできなかったけど、ひょっとしたらいつか実現するかもしれないね」
ザ・ロックはまた、自身のソーシャルメディアで3人目の赤ちゃんが生まれたことを写真とともに発表しています。
